Adam Carolla doesn’t consider himself a rock-ribbed conservative. But the podcast king did consider Andrew Breitbart a friend. Their bond came up on social media when Carolla Tweeted his sympathies to Breitbart’s family after the Internet publisher, author and journalist passed away last week.

That, according to Politico, was too much for some of Carolla’s Twitter followers:

When Carolla tweeted sympathetic thoughts when news of Breitbart’s death broke (“You can question Breitbart’s politics, but never question his love for his family and his country”), he said he got swarmed with vitriolic anger in response by many.

And, of course, Carolla had a comical solution for dealing with Twitter hate.

When people die and leave a family, can we make an exception for those people? People have to get on and start f**king tweeting 10 mintues after some guy dies about what a piece of sh*t he is.”

Carolla proposed a simple solution to Internet nastiness: Gun duels.

“We gotta keep the computers away from people and put the dueling pistols back in their hands. It shuts you the f**k up. … The guys don’t get to pass on their genes who are loudmouths because they get shot in duels. And you literally stop talking.
