First Lady Michelle Obama was on very friendly ground last night, the set of the faux conservative Comedy Central series “The Colbert Report.”

Obama, on hand to promote her efforts to salute military families, naturally threw in an endorsement for her husband’s second term.

Still, she kept mostly on message regarding the military, hitting a theme that’s as inclusive as conceivable given 2012 is an election year.

The first lady gave a graceful speech about the importance of supporting military families.

“Jill Biden and I started this initiative to make sure this country, which is a grateful nation, does whatever it can to honor our veterans and their families,” she said. She noted that unemployment rates for veterans and military spouses are declining, but are still too high.”

These people are bringing skills that actually improve the bottom line,” she said.
