Police have released the first images from inside the vault raided in the Hatton Garden jewel heist, showing the chaotic scenes left behind.

Thieves raided the vault over the Easter weekend earlier this month and broke into 72 deposit boxes, containing an estimated £60 million worth of jewellery.

The thieves drilled holes 18 inches wide and 10 inches high through the thick concrete wall.

The vault door proved no obstacle for the thieves.

The gang got inside by prising open iron bars (right).
