Polish authorities have quietly reinstated the European Union (EU) flag at press events, leading to speculation that the country might be wavering in its resolve to face down European Commission’s strong-arming of the new right-wing government.

When the newly elected Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo took to the podium in November, she did so against a backdrop of Polish flags – and Polish flags only, as Breitbart London reported at the time.

Although a minor detail, the removal of the EU flags which had accompanied the Polish red and white stripes under the last administration was seen as a symbolic snub to Brussels, and a sign that Poland’s new government would be standing up to the might of the Commission.

Szydlo’s right wing Law and Justice party had just become the first to win an outright majority in a Polish election since the fall of Communism. One of its first actions was to rip up the previous government’s agreement to take thousands of migrants from other member states as part of the Commission’s resettlement program.

And then Szydlo took to the stage flanked only by the Polish flags. In future, government press briefings “will be held only with the most beautiful red and white Polish flags”, she said.

But this morning a spokesman at the Polish Embassy in London admitted to Breitbart London that the flags had been reinstated in Warsaw.

Furthermore, she believes they were only taken down for one press conference in November. She added the Embassy had “absolutely no plans” to remove the EU flag flying on it’s London residence.

Consequently, when the Polish President Andrzej Duda took to the stage on 28 December to announce controversial changes to the constitution, the flags were firmly back in place.
