With just two weeks remaining until California’s June 3 primary, 33rd District congressional candidate Marianne Williamson is pulling out all the stops.

Alanis Morissette performed in support of Williamson on Monday night as part of a campaign rally at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Morrissette, a seven-time Grammy Award winner, performed a short set, including a song she wrote specifically for Williamson’s campaign, called “Today.” The song can be heard at marianneforcongress.com/alanis.

Morrissette told WestSideToday.com her inspiration for writing the song:

“I was attempting to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity, and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it,” she said.

This is the second time Morrissette has performed in support of Williamson; the first was on October 20 of last year, the day Williamson announced she would be running for Congress.

“For the last 30 years, I’ve been up close and personal with people whose lives were in crisis,” Williamson told CBS. “And I feel I understand something. Not only from living my own life, but also from being so up close with others moving through crisis about what it takes to transform crisis into opportunity.”

Williamson faces heavy competition in the form of 17 other candidates for the 33rd District Congressional seat, a post held for 40 years by Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman. Waxman announced in February that he would not seek a 21st term.
