In the early morning hours of August 10, a Long Beach resident shot and killed 29-year-old Ryan Anderson for allegedly “trying to burglarize his home.”

Police said they received a “burglary in progress” call around 3 a.m. from a resident who said a suspect had been “shot inside the home.” Police arrived to find Anderson “dead at the scene.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, there are two adult residents who live in the the home where the incident took place. Police have spoken to both and found “no indication of [criminal] intent on the part of the residents.”

CBS Los Angeles reports that police say “the would-be burglar…broke a window to get inside” the home. They also say he “had stolen property on his body.” But the suspect’s mother says “she believes [her son] was very drunk” and “only entered [the] home because he thought it was his own.”

Friends say the suspect had been on “pub crawl” celebrating another friend’s birthday and “was drunk.” They, too, believe he entered the wrong home thinking it was his own.
