TEL AVIV – Israeli soccer star Eran Zahavi was picked as the most valuable player in the Chinese Super League on Saturday after scoring the most goals of anyone in the league.

Zahavi received the accolade after he scored 27 goals – one less than tying the league record of 28 – during the season for his Guangzhou R&F club team. The 30-year-old was only in his second season in the Chinese league, which attracts top players from all over the world.

His contract will last until 2020 at $7 million a year. However, he recently said he was unsure about whether he would play with the club next season.

Despite his individual success, Zahavi’s Guangzhou R&F club only finished fifth in the league.

Other Chinese teams are reportedly vying to recruit the Israeli soccer champion.
