25% of Muslims in Asia, Africa Favor Suicide Bombings, 75% Favor Sharia

According to a new study of Muslims around Asia and Africa conducted by the Washington-based Pew Forum, over 75% of those Muslims want sharia to rule over family issues and at least 25% of Muslims are in favor of suicide terrorist bombings. Muslims were surveyed in the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia. The range of those supporting suicide bombings varied from 26% in Bangladesh to 29% in Egypt, 39% in Afghanistan, and 40% in the Palestinian areas.

Draconian measures such as chopping off the hands of thieves and ordering death for apostates were favored by roughly 75% of Muslims in South Asia. Democracy was slightly ahead in Iraq (54%) and Egypt (55%) but was at a low 29% in Pakistan.

As far as conflicts with other religions, 68% of Lebanese Muslims agreed it was a problem, along with 65% of Tunisians, 60% of Nigerians, and 57% of Pakistanis.
