Russia detained U.S. Embassy Diplomat Ryan C. Fogle on the night of May 13; they have since expelled him from the country over accusations that he is a CIA intelligence officer.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Fogle was “released to U.S. diplomats.” Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) claims he tried to recruit a member of a Russia anti-terror team whose job was fighting Islamic terrorism.

The Russian anti-terror agent claimed Fogle offered him $130,000 to take part in a job, the details of which have not been released.

According the FSB, when they detained Fogle on Monday night he was “wearing a wig” and “carrying special technical equipment.” They said he also had “a large sum” of cash with him.
