Blast, Shootings near UN Compound in Somali Capital

A loud explosion followed by heavy shooting was heard close to the main United Nations compound in the Somali capital Wednesday, an AFP reporter and UN sources said.

The explosion was heard outside the UN compound — including both residential and office areas — near the Mogadishu airport, but a UN source in Nairobi said that all staff were reported to be in a secure zone.
