On August 16, thelocal.de reported Germany will soon be divided into males, females, and “intersexual people.”

The law recognizing this new gender goes into effect in November and is designed to apply to “people born with gender-intermediate bodies.”

This “third sex” will allow “birth certificates to be left blank and for those concerned to make a decision later whether to identify as male, female, or neither.”

Responding to the new gender categorization, Brussels-based attorney Wolf Sieberich hinted at the creation of a fourth gender as well. He claims “transsexuals should also get the right to determine their own legally recognized gender.”

Sieberich also questions whether Germany’s current marriage laws–which preserve marriage as union between a man and a woman–will be able to withstand the categorization of new genders.
