The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) hacked into and defaced the marines.com website in the early hours of September 2.

According to International Business Times, the website was restored to normal shortly after the cyber attack took place.

The SEA has been involved in numerous cyber attacks over the past six months, including “attacks on the New York Times and Twitter.”

In the past, SEA has focused on those whom “it believes are reporting untruths about what is happening in Syria.” But in addition to defacing the Marines website, the SEA also urged individual Marines not to fight with Al Qaeda against Syria.

The SEA appealed to U.S. Marines as “brothers.”
