President Obama should warn the Palestinian Authority that their new pact with Hamas has put their foreign aid in danger of being revoked, Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) urged in a new letter today.

The Senators criticized the decision of the PLO and Fatah to pursue a unity government with Hamas, suggesting that it was in violation of the 2006 Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act.

Rubio and Kirk appeared pessimistic that Hamas would ever renounce terrorism or accept Israel’s right to exist, and suggested that Kerry make a public statement about the issue to strengthen the international credibility of the United States.

Their letter is a similar vein as the bill proposed by Sen. Rand Paul, (R-KY) which would defund aid to the Palestinian Authority until they recognize the the State of Israel, but suggests the power to do so already exists under current law.
