A village in Kazakhstan is being evacuated as scientists grapple with the cause of a mysterious sleeping sickness.
Dozens of people in the remote Kalachi village have fallen victim to the affliction, with many passing out in schools, at home and even one on a motorbike.
Some victims have remained unconscious for days and some have also suffered hallucinations, headaches and fatigue.
The Astana Times reports the country’s Deputy Prime Minister said a combination of carbon monoxide and outer hydrocarbon gases from a nearby uranium mine was the cause.
