May 1 (UPI) — Barcelona players will sport Olivia Rodrigo logos on their jerseys when they host rival Real Madrid on May 10 in El Clasico, the Spanish La Liga soccer club announced Friday.
Players from the Barcelona women’s team, in Liga F, also will don jerseys that include the logo when they take on Levante on Wednesday in Barcelona. Rodrigo will hold a private concert in May in Barcelona.
“Seeing OR on a Barcelona jersey for El Clasico, I don’t even know how to process that,” Rodrigo said in a statement. “It’s been so fun seeing the jersey come to life and creating a full collection with Spotify and Barca.
“On top of that, getting to perform for the fans who’ve been listening since day one, in a city like Barcelona, is going to be so special. That’s everything to me. I cannot wait to see them.”
Rodrigo achieves more than 50 million listeners per month on Spotify, the front-of-shirt sponsor for Barcelona’s men’s and women’s teams. Rodrigo, 23, will be the youngest artist to ever appear on a Barcelona jersey. The honor comes about a month before the June 12 release of her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love.
Fellow music artists Drake, Ed Sheeran, Travis Scott, Coldplay, Karol G, the Rolling Stones and Rosalia previously were featured on the front of Barcelona jerseys.
Barcelona also listed more than a dozen Rodrigo-inspired products for sale in the team store, including versions of the jersey autographed by Rodrigo and players, available for more than $3,500.
“Clasico after Clasico, our agreement with Spotify allows us to strengthen an activation that has become a strategic asset for the club and a clear example of our commitment to generating value beyond competition,” said Manel del Rio, Barcelona’s managing director.
“It’s an initiative that adds value, reinforces our global positioning, and builds a distinctive offering based on the connection between culture and sport.
“At FC Barcelona, we believe the future lies in integrating disciplines and languages that allow us to connect with new audiences and amplify our impact. This partnership enables us to move in that direction, positioning the club as a global benchmark at the intersection of sport, culture, and entertainment.”
