Nov. 1 (UPI) — Baz Luhrmann’s screen adaptation of Romeo & Juliet — starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes — was released in cinemas 30 years ago today.

The film took place in contemporary California and followed the titular star-crossed lovers, whose respective organized crime families are mortal enemies.

The movie co-starred John Leguizamo, Harold Perrineau, Jamie Kennedy and Paul Rudd.

“30 years ago today my career began,” Kennedy wrote on X Sunday.

“As soon as I finished this movie I went back to my 2 room apartment off highland! 2 things, 1. today attention is currency. But what is your legacy? What are u doing that in 30 years will still be relevant. What affects culture? Attention don’t last yo. 2. If you have pink hair, it’s because of me and BAZ.”

Nobody in Verona Beach was doing it like Mercutio.
