Rafael Nadal subdued the big game of Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz, posting a 7-6 (8/6), 6-4 win over the Pole to reach the quarter-finals of the Montreal Masters on Thursday.
The Spanish fourth seed, whose own Wimbledon bid ended in a shock first round loss, needed one and three-quarter hours to go through, advancing on his sixth ace.
The win was a contrast to Nadal’s opening match, where he lost just two games against Jesse Levine of Canada.
The Spaniard has seven titles this season and has won 45 matches.
