May 13 (UPI) — Lorenzo Musetti, a singles semifinalist at the 2025 French Open, withdrew from the 2026 tournament due to a thigh injury, he announced Wednesday.
Musetti was hurt during a Round of 16 loss to No. 25 Casper Ruud of Norway at the Italian Open on Tuesday in Rome. He said he underwent a medical examination, which revealed a rectus femoris injury.
The Italian, who sits at No. 10 in the ATP singles rankings, said the injury requires “several weeks of rest and recovery.”
“Unfortunately, this means I won’t be able to compete in Hamburg and Roland Garros — news that is incredibly hard to take,” Musetti wrote on Instagram.
“A huge thank you to the Rome crowd for your incredible support: that’s exactly why, despite not being 100%, I chose to step on court and give everything I had in my home tournament. I’ll keep you updated.”

The 2026 French Open will be held May 18 to June 7 at Roland Garros in Paris. The draw ceremony for the clay-court major will be May 21.
Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz beat Musetti in four sets in the 2026 French Open semifinals. Alcaraz went on to beat Jannik Sinner of Italy in the finale of the 2025 Roland Garros finale.
Alcaraz announced in April that he will not play in the 2026 French Open due to a wrist injury.
