Nov. 24 (UPI) — A Georgia man’s wife’s birthday brought him some extra luck when he bought a scratch-off lottery ticket and scored a $10,000 prize.

Gainesville resident Preston Fuqua told Georgia Lottery officials he stopped at the Chevron on Price Road in Gainesville and bought a Georgia Millionaire scratch-off ticket.

Fuqua, who had taken the day off for his wife’s birthday, called his spouse when he uncovered a $10,000 prize.

He said his wife didn’t believe him until he visited the Georgia Lottery office in Duluth and sent her a photo of him holding the giant novelty check.

Fuqua said his winnings will be put to good use.

“I gave my wife some money for Christmas and then the rest is in a savings account,” he said. “I’m going to hold on to it. Well, it’s sitting in a savings account now, but I’m sure it’s going to be blown on fishing equipment!”
