Nov. 12 (UPI) — The Los Angeles 2028 schedule will have the women’s 100-meter final on Day 1 and a 26-final “Super Saturday,” organizers announced Wednesday.
Olympic athletes will flood the Los Angeles region and Oklahoma City to compete in 36 sports and 51 disciples across 49 venues from July 12 to 30, 2028. The Opening Ceremony will be held at 8 p.m. EDT July 14 at Los Angeles Coliseum and SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
“With Olympic ticket registration opening in January of 2026, now is the time to start planning what events you want to attend, which sports are coming to your neighborhood and the moments of history you don’t want to miss,” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a news release.
“Athletes and fans from around the world now have what they need to plan an unforgettable Olympic experience.”

Organizers said the Summer Olympics will feature a record total of female athletes, with each sports including an equal or greater number of women’s teams compared to men’s teams for the first time in history. More than 50% (50.5%) of the total athlete quota is allocated to women.
Basketball, soccer, hockey, water polo, rugby, handball and cricket events will take place July 12. The first medals of the Summer Games will be awarded three days later, with athletes earning podium spots through the women’s 100-meter final and men’s 10,000-meter final, in addition to triathlon, shooting, rugby, kayak, fencing and judo events.
The preliminary round and first round of the women’s 100M will start at 9 a.m. July 15, Day 1 of the 2028 Summer Games. The semifinals and final slate is set to start at 5 p.m. the same day.
Dozens of other competitions are scheduled, including baseball, basketball, soccer, flag football, gymnastics, boxing and volleyball.
Numerous medals will be awarded July 29, “Super Saturday.” Twenty-six finals across 23 sports will be held that day, featuring athletes from basketball, soccer, hockey, golf, the marathon, swimming, BMX and other disciplines.
July 30 will be the final day of 2028 Summer Olympic competition and ending with the closing ceremony at 9 p.m. in Los Angeles.
