The Hague (AFP) – A Malian jihadist is to first appear before the International Criminal Court on Wednesday where he faces charges for the destruction of Timbuktu and sex slavery, the world war crimes court said Tuesday.

Al Hassan Ag Abdoul Aziz Ag Mohamed Ag Mahmoud, who was arrested over the weekend and handed over by Malian authorities, “will be informed of the charges against him,” the Hague-based ICC said in a statement.
