April 7 (UPI) — Mark Consuelos announced the death of his dad Saul on Monday’s edition of Live! with Kelly & Mark.
The show, which Consuelos hosts with Kelly Ripa, his wife of 30 years, had been on hiatus for two weeks.
When it returned Monday, the actor and TV personality said his dad had been sick for a long time and died on March 23.
Consuelos called Saul a “fascinating man” and Ripa said she will miss him every day for the rest of her life.
“As I know you will. As our children will,” Ripa added. “He was the greatest person I have ever known.”
Consuelos noted that Saul was a Mexican immigrant and U.S. Navy veteran with a voracious thirst for learning.
“He loved this country so much,” Consuelos said. “He raised three pretty good kids.”
“Three extraordinary kids,” Ripa said. “You are his legacy.”
Consuelos said he is now focused on caring for his mother and floated the idea of having her do a weekly cooking segment on the show.
