Jan. 12 (UPI) — Meta named Dina Powell McCormick, former adviser to President Donald Trump, as its new president and vice chairman on Monday.

Powell McCormick was a member of Meta’s board of directors before resigning in April. She has been “deeply engaged” with the company’s AI initiatives, Meta said in its announcement.

“Dina’s experience at the highest levels of global finance, combined with her deep relationships around the world, makes her uniquely suited to help Meta manage this next phase of growth as the company’s president and vice chairman,” said Mark Zuckerberg.

Powell McCormick’s experience includes 16 years as a partner with Goldman Sachs.

Powell McCormick was the deputy national security adviser under Trump during his first term in office. She also served as an adviser on economic initiatives. She was the assistant secretary of state under Condoleezza Rice during George W. Bush’s presidency.

Meta hired another former member of Trump’s administration earlier this month. Curtis Joseph Mahoney is the company’s new chief legal officer after serving as deputy U.S. trade representative during Trump’s first term.

Trump congratulated Powell McCormick in a post on social media Monday.

“A great choice by Mark Z,” Trump wrote. “She is a fantastic and very talented person who served the Trump administration with strength and distinction.”
