New York (United States) (AFP) – Mexican drug baron Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, one of the world’s most notorious criminals, will be arraigned on drugs, firearm and conspiracy charges in a New York court Friday, a prosecutor announced.

Guzman heads the Sinaloa cartel, which US prosecutors say is responsible for distributing hundreds of thousands of kilos of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana throughout the United States, reaping them billions of dollars.

He “will be arraigned later today in the US district court right here in Brooklyn on a 17-count sweeping indictment,” Attorney Robert Capers told a news conference just hours after his extradition to New York.
