AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 16 (UPI) — UFC fighter Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant says she fights better while on her period because it gives her a “killer instinct.”

“It all just fuels the fire,” the 20-year-old mixed martial artist told TMZ.

“You wanna go in there angry, you wanna go in there aggressive — heck we got a killer instinct already!”

VanZant’s comments are contrary to how she portrayed her approach to fighting in a formal interview with Fox News published Friday.

“I don’t go into a fight mad,” VanZant described.

“I go into a fight like it’s my birthday. I love what I’m doing. I guess I love punching people in the face. I get a thrill out of it.”

VanZant, UFC’s youngest female fighter, also opened up about her dating life in TMZ’s on the street ambush interview.

“Usually I only date fighters, it just happens you’re in the gym all day every day — the other ones are just too intimidated.”

VanZant next enters the octagon on April 18 to face off against Felice Herrig in Austin.
