March 15 (UPI) — The Rookie and Castle actor Nathan Fillion has announced that an animated sequel to his beloved sci-fi series, Firefly, is now in the works.

The show ran one season in 2002 and was followed by a 2005 movie, Serenity.

Both starred Fillion, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Summer Glau and Jewel Staite.

Fillion appeared alongside his former cast members in an Instagram video Saturday to say they have the blessing of the show’s creator Joss Whedon, the rights from FOX, a script, an animation house and showrunners to continue the franchise.

They said what they didn’t have, however, was a home for the series, so they are asking fans to campaign in the hopes that a TV station or streaming network will pick it up.
