Dec. 9 (UPI) — The NHL has suspended Toronto Maple Leafs forward Zach Hyman for two games.
Hyman’s suspension was announced on Sunday by the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety.
The 26-year-old was given the ban for interference against Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy during a game on Saturday in Boston. The sequence occurred at 9:53 in the third period. Hyman was given a major penalty for interference and game misconduct.
The four-year veteran will forfeit $24,193.54 during the suspension. That money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Hyman has played a league-high 82 games in back-to-back seasons. He has appeared in all 30 of the Maple Leafs’ games this season. He has never been previously fined or suspended.
Boston beat Toronto 6-3 on Saturday at TD Garden. The Maple Leafs battle the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C.
