Washington (AFP) – The Organization of American States on Wednesday called on Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to work with the opposition to set dates for early elections in the violence-wracked Central American country.

The Washington-based OAS passed a resolution that also reiterated its condemnation of “all acts of violence, repression and human rights violations and abuses committed by police, para-police groups and others.”

Some 280 people have been killed in three months of unrest against Ortega and his leftist government.
