Nov. 25 (UPI) — At least six people were killed by Russia in an overnight attack on Kyiv, the city’s mayor said Tuesday, as the United States and Ukraine held talks over the weekend to finalize a peace plan.

Several buildings were damaged in the strike, including one that was destroyed in Sviatoshynskyi District, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said on Telegram.

“There may be people trapped under the rubble,” he said. “Emergency services are heading to the scene.”

A 22-story apartment in the Perchersk district was evacuated due to fires on floors four through seven.

Klitschko announced the death toll after stating nine people were injured, including a child. Three adults have been hospitalized.

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said “a massive combined enemy attack” was targeting energy infrastructure, and the extent of the damage would be assessed.

The attack follows a weekend of talks between the United States and Ukraine in Europe on finalizing a peace plan to end the war.

On X on Monday, Zelensky said “We must be cognizant that Russia will not ease its pressure on Ukraine.”

“We clearly understand whom we are dealing with, and all necessary orders have been issued within the Air Force and across all other components of Ukraine’s Defense and Security Forces,” he said. “We will react.”
