April 2 (UPI) — An Ohio man who found multiple stores were sold out of his favorite scratch-off lottery ticket ended up making a backup choice that earned him a $1 million prize.

The Ashville man told Ohio Lottery officials he stopped at multiple stores on his way to work in search of an Extreme Million scratch-off ticket.

His last stop was at GetGo on West 3rd Avenue in Columbus, where he finally gave up on his search and bought a $1,000,000 Cashword ticket instead.

The man was in disbelief to scratch off 14 words on the ticket, but a coworker scanned the ticket using the lottery app and confirmed it was a $1 million winner.

The winner said his prize money will go toward paying off his house, paying off his car and taking his wife on a vacation.
