June 3 (UPI) — ABC has announced comedian and Saturday Night Live star Marcello Hernandez as the host of the 2026 ESPY Awards.

In a press release Wednesday, the network said Hernandez, 28, “will bring his signature humor and vibrant personality” to the stage July 15 at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City.

“I started doing comedy 10 years ago, in Cleveland, Ohio, and I would take the train 12 hours to New York to sell comedy tickets on the street in Greenwich Village in exchange for stage time,” Hernandez said in a statement. “It is an honor, and frankly feels crazy to be hosting the ESPYs this year in New York. I’m sure the energy is going to be great.”

The ESPY Awards is an annual event honoring athletes and achievements in sports. Past hosts include Jimmy Kimmel, John Cena, LeBron James, Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson and Serena Williams.

This year’s show will air at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and also stream on ESPN+. It will be available to stream the next day on Hulu, the ESPN app and ABC Video on Demand.

Hernandez joined SNL in 2022 and released his first Netflix comedy special, American Boy, in January.
