May 21 (UPI) — The first permanent female director of central intelligence will be sworn in at CIA headquarters in Virginia Monday morning.

Gina Haspel will take the oath at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

Haspel, a 33-year CIA veteran, won Senate confirmation last week after intense questioning about her role in past CIA interrogation techniques.

Some of Haspel’s critics said some actions she supervised were comparable to torture. Because of the classified nature of the CIA’s work, some details of her career are unclear.

President Donald Trump, who reaffirmed his support for Haspel through her confirmation, will attend Monday’s ceremony.

Haspel replaces Mike Pompeo as CIA chief, who took over for Rex Tillerson as secretary of state.
