In the aftermath of Michael Bloomberg’s attempts to ban sodas larger than 16 oz. throughout New York City, McDonald’s has fired back via Tweet:

Obviously, McDonald’s is correct. What right does the government have to tell consumers how much they can buy of a legal substance? Why wouldn’t customers just buy two 12 oz. drinks instead of one 16 oz. drink? McDonald’s is a private enterprise being attacked for its success by a paternalistic mayor who has taken it upon himself to police the private lives of those who live in the city he governs. But shouldn’t the decision about how big a Big Gulp to buy be between a woman and her fast food cashier?
