At a posh, $500-a-plate fundraiser in Connecticut , President Barack Obama on Monday called Mitt Romney’s tax plan “Romney Hood.” Obama said Romney’s tax plan is “like Robin Hood in reverse” because it takes from the middle class and gives back to the wealthy.

Later, Obama raised money at a $35,800-a-person event in which “Newsroom” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (Obama said Sorkin “writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke”), actress Anne Hathaway (Obama said Hathaway was “spectacular” as Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises”), and Vogue editor Anna Wintour attended among other celebrities and influential financiers. The fundraiser was held at the home of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, and, according to the Chicago Tribune, Obama did not make the “Romney Hood” comment at that event.

In recent days, Obama has directly attacked Romney’s wealth and tried to paint Romney as a candidate who would benefit from his tax plan. Of course, this is another way Obama is trying to bait Romney into releasing his taxes.

Obama is able to make his accusations because he has been aided and  abetted by a so-called “independent” study authored by someone who once worked in his administration. The study found that Romney’s tax plan, which cuts taxes across the board, would raise the income for the wealthiest taxpayers, who also happen to pay the lion’s share of the taxes.

Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams responded to the “Romney Hood” remarks by saying Obama has “used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors” while “middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes, and less hope for the future.”
