Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) sent a fundraising email Tuesday responding to a report from Breitbart News on her admission for further gun control plans.

Schakowsky made headlines Monday after Breitbart News covered an interview from Jason Mattera at a gun control rally in Washington D.C. In the interview, Schakowsky stated that an assault weapons ban was “just the beginning” of planned gun control efforts.

Breitbart News editor-in-chief Joel Pollak authored the article on their taped discussion:

“We want everything on the table,” Schakowsky told Mattera.

“This is a moment of opportunity. There’s no question about it.”

One poignant exchange was as follows:

Schakowsky: We’re on a roll now, and I think we’ve got to take the–you know, we’re gonna push as hard as we can and as far as we can.

Mattera: So the assault weapons ban is just the beginning?

Schakowsky: Oh absolutely. I mean, I’m against handguns. We have, in Illinois, the Council Against Handgun… something [Violence]. Yeah, I’m a member of that. So, absolutely.

One day later, Schakowsky’s Political Director sent the following fundraising email, calling the report one of many “false diatribes about government confiscating all guns.”

Interestingly, the email makes no attempt to deny Schakowsky’s comments, only referring to them as “common sense measures to end gun violence,” and linking to the article at Big Government.
