The Armed Citizen Project (ACP), which began by giving away firearms for self-defense to law-abiding citizens in Houston, is now raising money to distribute weapons to citizens in Dallas.

ACP provides a single-shot shotgun to families or single women living in high-crime areas.

The person receiving the shotgun has to pass a background check and a gun safety course first. They also have to prove they’ve been a resident at their current address for a year or more.

In addition to Houston and Dallas, ACP is trying to put firearms for self-defense into the hands of families and single women in high-crime areas in Tucson, Indianapolis, Chicago, Detroit, and New York.
