While working with his fellow “Gang of Eight” member Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to attempt to defeat a border security amendment offered by Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) claimed America’s borders could never be secured.

“No border is ever going to be sealed,” McCain said on the Senate floor on Wednesday afternoon. McCain was arguing that Cornyn’s push to have an additional 6,500 Border Patrol agents on the border would not solve the problem of illegal immigration.

Schumer made several remarks supporting McCain’s argument, even though it contradicts statements he made on the Senate floor on Tuesday. Schumer declared on Tuesday that if the Gang of Eight bill became law, “illegal immigration will be a thing of the past.”
