On Tuesday, the National Republican Senatorial Committee said it would support incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) over commentator Liz Cheney if she were to primary him in 2014.

“The NRSC’s main responsibility is to ensure the reelection of Republican senators on the way to the majority,” NRSC Communications Director Brad Dayspring told the The Hill. “We would obviously support Sen. Enzi if a challenge arises.”

According to the New York Times, Cheney reportedly called Enzi to tell him she was thinking about challenging him in 2014.

The Hill notes Enzi “has less than $400,000 cash on hand for a possible campaign, a low amount for a longtime senator but a good start in an inexpensive state to campaign in.”
