Another sign establishment Republicans in the House are still driving for amnesty for America’s illegal immigrants is word that House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) is considering cancelling a long-scheduled congressional recess week at the end of September.

“The recess planned for the last week of September may be canceled to deal with fiscal issues, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., said on the floor Thursday,” Roll Call’s Steven Dennis wrote on Thursday. “The announcement came in his weekly colloquy with Minority Whip Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., and after House leaders had to postpone their plans to pass a stopgap spending bill to avoid a government shutdown this week.”

While Cantor publicly stated his move would be due to fiscal issues, his close congressional ally Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) let slip recently that the move would really be to push amnesty. “Rep. Tom Cole, (R-Okla.) predicted the House will cancel its week-long recess it has scheduled for late September to tackle immigration,” The Hill reported on Monday.
