New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said on Thursday that he would consider legalizing edible marijuana for those over 18 years of age.
“If there becomes a large adult population that needs this type of edible (marijuana), I’ll consider it,” Christie said at a town hall event, according to CNN.
Last year, Christie signed a bill that “allows dispensaries to sell edible marijuana – but only to minors who have the approval of both a psychiatrist and a physician.”
The New Jersey governor said he does not want to sign laws that will eventually turn New Jersey into a state to which people come solely to smoke pot. However, he added that he would sign a bill legalizing edible marijuana for people over 18 if presented with enough evidence that they need it to help them better cope with serious ailments.
