A mountain peak in Nevada is one step closer to being officially named Mount Reagan after a House committee voted to approve the naming.
Nevada small government advocate Chuck Muth of Citizen Outreach Foundation has been trying to get one of the peaks of Frenchman Mountain named after the president for some time and the bill by Representative Joe Heck (R-NV) is the closest he has gotten to that end.
Heck’s bill was passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee on a voice vote on April 9.
Muth’s efforts ground to a halt in 2013 when Democrat Rep. Dina Titus countered the Reagan bill with one to name the same peak after Nevada Democrat Maude Frazier–a Nevadan who helped found the University of Nevada.
The House will likely pass the bill easily, but the Senate could be a stumbling block. Still, even in the House, it is reported that Democrats are attempting to turn the bill into a joke by claiming that “the whole earth” should be named after Reagan. Another Democrat suggested that Yucca Mountain be renamed after the President.
Yucca Mountain is most recently known as a proposed repository for the nation’s nuclear waste.
In an email to Breitbart, Muth insisted that naming a peak after Reagan could not be more appropriate.
“President Ronald Reagan had one of the more consequential presidencies in our nation’s history, including his success in ending the Cold War,” Muth said. “He is remembered and revered nationally and internationally for his personal integrity, humor, charm, love of country and unwavering support for freedom. Commemorating the life and accomplishments of this great American by officially establishing a mountain summit in his name, so that his legacy is remembered by future generations of Americans, is both appropriate and well-deserved.”
