Madeline Scotto, a 100-year-old math teacher at Brooklyn’s St. Ephrem’s School, had some things to say about the Common Core math methods.

As Scotto told Business Insider, “When I saw the other day what a teacher was doing to get children to add four and four–Oh my God… they’re making it more complicated, as far as I’m concerned.”

Additionally, Scotto said that teachers who have a method that works should “use that method.”

Scotto further said, “Before you institute a system, be sure that it’s had good fortune, and I don’t think they waited long enough for this Common Core to produce something outstanding so that we could say, ‘I think we should do that.'”
