On December 9 Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) joined with Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America and Everytown for Gun Safety to suggest gun control is the way to honor victims of Sandy Hook.

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) also joined the Senators and the Bloomberg-funded gun control groups.

USA Today reported Sen. Blumenthal’s comments on the upcoming second anniversary of Sandy Hook:

The best way to honor their memory is through action against gun violence. Individual acts of kindness are a very fitting memorial. But the most effective memorial is to make our nation safer and better by making our laws more effective to prevent gun violence and keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people.

It should be noted that laws were already effective enough to keep guns out of Adam Lanza’s hands, legally speaking. Therefore, he acquired his firearms by stealing them, not by taking advantage of so-called sub-par laws for gun purchasers.

Nevertheless, Moms Demand Action reports that Sen. Murphy is pushing for more gun control now. He said, “We don’t have to choose between protecting the Second Amendment and enacting common-sense safety measures. It’s long overdue for Congress to stand up and act.”

Rep. Thompson said the first step in keeping children safer is the passage of “comprehensive background checks.” He did not reference Sen. Joe Manchin’s (D-WV) admission that such background checks would not have kept the attack on Sandy Hook from happening.
