A Maryland man high on the drug PCP was arrested last week for allegedly assaulting a neighbor and a toddler — police claim he tried to gouge the little girl’s eyes out.

On Friday, La Plata, Maryland Chief of Police Carl Schinner said that on Jan. 15 officers arrested James Ronald Lee, 27, for the dual assaults.

Police found Lee corralled on the road by concerned citizens after he had attacked a neighbor as she was driving him to a local sheriff’s office.

High on PCP, a horse tranquilizer, the paranoid Lee had demanded that a neighbor drive him to the Charles County Sheriff’s office because he thought someone was out to kill him. During the drive, he turned violent after the woman refused to run a red light, and allegedly attacked her. He also lunged for the woman’s two-year-old daughter who was in a car seat in the back of the vehicle.

Witnesses told police that after attacking the driver, the drug-crazed man tried to gouge the little girl’s eyes out of her head.

Several drivers pulled over to assist the woman and child.

After police apprehended Lee, the woman, the child and a citizen injured by Lee were transported to a local hospital. All were reported to be in good condition. The little girl is said to recover from her injuries.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the little girl and her mother pay for their medical costs. Over $4,000 has been raised.

Lee was treated for a drug overdose and was arrested on three counts of assault. He is being held on $500,000 bond.

The 27-year-old drug addict has quite a criminal history. That record includes drug possession in 2006 and 2011, second-degree assault in 2009 and 2012 and reckless endangerment in 2011 and 2012.
