On March 26, a drunk father who allegedly assaulted his own mother was shot by his son, then arrested.

The scenario played out in Randolph County, North Carolina.

According to WXII 12, the father, 51-year-old Mitchell Grant Barr, allegedly assaulted his mother during an argument. Barr then allegedly “fought with his son and argued with other family members.”

After being asked to leave the residence, Barr allegedly went outside but “continued to make threats from outside the home.” He then allegedly went to his vehicle to retrieve a rifle, at which point his 21-year-old son, Dylan Barr, shot him with a rifle he had retrieved from inside the home.

Police arrived to find an “intoxicated” Barr with a gunshot to the knee.

The Courier-Tribune reports that the son, Dylan, will not be charged in the case, as the shooting was in self-defense. On the other hand, the father is facing an investigation over his possession of a rifle because “he is a convicted felony from a…[previous] possession of cocaine conviction in Davidson County.”
