As former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to travel important primary states, one campaign promise sticks out as she faces multiple allegations of keeping foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation secret.

“We can fix our dysfunctional political system and get unaccountable money out of it once and for all, even if that takes a constitutional amendment,” she wrote in an op-ed published this morning in the Des Moines Register.

It’s a theme that Clinton has been pushing on the trail, seemingly unaware of mounting criticism of her own questionable financial activities while in a position of power.

In New Hampshire last Tuesday, Clinton challenged the idea that even public disclosure of donations was effective in blocking undue financial influence in politics.

“What good does it do to disclose if somebody’s about to spend $100 million to promote their own interests and to defeat candidates who would stand up against them?” she said Tuesday at an event in New Hampshire. “What good does that do?”

She’s referring to the oft-mentioned “shadowy billionaires” who fund Republican candidates during elections. But what about the unaccountable money that exchanges hands once that candidate starts governing?
