By 5 PM on Sunday this weekend, 28 had been shot and 6 killed in Chicago’s gang violence. Victims included a 12-year-old boy and a baby.

One-year-old Dillon Harris was being pushed in a stroller by his mother in the Woodlawn neighborhood when a car fleeing a gang shooting ran him over on Saturday.

The boy and his mother were waiting at a bus stop when a car fleeing westbound jumped the curb.

“All of a sudden, they swerved and hit a pole and hit my baby,” the mother, who requested not to be identified publicly, told the media.

Occupants of the car were running from a gang shooting that had claimed the life of a 22-year-old man.

In another case, a 12-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk in the South Chicago neighborhood when he was felled by a bullet to the leg.

The boy is lucky. He is in stable condition at Comer Children’s Hospital.

The violence this weekend brings the toll of violence to 1,416 shot in the city since the beginning of the year. 213 have been shot and killed with 247 total homicides.
