Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) refused to apologize Tuesday for comments she made a day earlier, saying that Republican presidential candidate Scott Walker is “really tightening the noose, literally, around African-Americans.”

“I’m not going to apologize for making those comments, and let me tell you why. I have a long history with Scott Walker, obviously, and I have seen a trend of his to double down on racial polarization in order to feed red meat to his base,” Moore told The Hill.

Moore, instead, insisted that it is Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker who should be apologizing.

“Maybe he doesn’t say things that are objectionable, but what he does concerns me more than what he might say,” Moore added. “Scott Walker should apologize to the African-American community for his policies.”

Rep. Moore and Governor Walker have a sour history. Moore handed Walker his only political loss in a 1990 state representative race.

Rep. Moore also has a history of making inflammatory and racist remarks. In 2012, Moore accused then-presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan (R-WI) of being race-baiting liars.
