An illegal immigrant, who told police that “demons in his head” ordered him to kill his girlfriend, was arrested for her murder, authorities in Florida report.

Marco Perez, a Guatemalan national living in the U.S. illegally, was arrested for the murder of 25-year-old Idelcira Perez, whose body was found in a patch of woodlands off Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee, Florida.

Police were alerted to the murder by the suspect himself who called police, telling them the woman was dead. The suspect initially told police that two armed, masked men forced him at gunpoint to beat his girlfriend and then bury her in the woods. Perez then led officers to the woman’s body.

But the illegal immigrant’s story quickly fell apart when he then admitted to police that the two masked men “were actually demons in his head telling him what to do,” according to court documents.

Eventually Perez admitted that he and the woman got in an argument about his infidelities, and he began punching her in the face. He said he dragged her into the woods and continued beating her until she stopped moving. He then tried to cover her body with tree limbs and leaves.

Perez is being held in the Leon County Jail facing a charge of first-degree murder.
