Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) is responding to the terrorist attacks by the Islamic State (ISIS) in Brussels, Belgium, saying it’s time to “confront this threat together.”

“I want to express the condolences of the U.S. House of Representatives to the Belgian people. I know we’re all watching this right now, and this scene is just so horrific,” Ryan said in a statement on Tuesday morning.

One minute, people are going about their day. The next minute, people are running for their lives. This is a terrorist attack in the heart of Europe. As our countries have always done, we must confront this threat together. We must defend democracy, and defeat terror.

“Our prayers are with Brussels, as is our solidarity,” Ryan concluded.
